Overview

Langtang Valley is situated directly north of Kathmandu in the central Himalayan region in Langtang National Park, covering a dense forest area of 1710 square kilometers. The highlights of this area are the Langtang Lirung (7,345m) range in the north and high altitude jungles with diverse vegetation and wildlife, glaciers, and Himalayan peaks. This trek is often rated as an easy family trek with no hard climbs and freezing cold temperatures. Walking through rhododendron forests, waterfalls, and yak pastures up to Kyanjin Gompa, trekkers experience both natural beauty and cultural richness of Tibetan-influenced communities.

Itinerary Details

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu

Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, you will be welcomed by your guide and transferred to your hotel. Depending on your arrival time, you may explore the bustling streets of Thamel or simply relax after your journey. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 2: Drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi (1,550m)

Begin your adventure with a scenic drive to Syabrubesi, the starting point of the Langtang trek. The journey winds through terraced hillsides, traditional villages, and river valleys with occasional Himalayan views. Overnight in Syabrubesi.

Day 3: Trek Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel (2,380m)

Start trekking along the Langtang Khola, crossing suspension bridges and passing through dense forests of oak and rhododendron. Gradual ascents bring you to Lama Hotel, a peaceful settlement in the forest. Overnight in Lama Hotel.

Day 4: Trek Lama Hotel to Langtang Village (3,430m)

Continue uphill, with the valley gradually opening to alpine meadows and mountain views. Pass Tamang settlements along the way before arriving at Langtang Village, a historic community with deep cultural roots. Overnight in Langtang Village.

Day 5: Trek Langtang Village to Kyanjin Gompa (3,870m)

A shorter yet scenic trek brings you to Kyanjin Gompa, the spiritual heart of the valley. En route, enjoy panoramic views of snow-capped peaks. Explore the ancient monastery and the surrounding yak pastures. Overnight in Kyanjin Gompa.

Day 6: Acclimatization and Exploration in Kyanjin

Spend the day acclimatizing and exploring. Popular hikes include climbing Kyanjin Ri (4,773m) or Tserko Ri (5,000m) for breathtaking views of Langtang Lirung and surrounding peaks. Overnight in Kyanjin Gompa.

Day 7: Trek Kyanjin Gompa to Lama Hotel (2,380m)

Retrace your steps down the valley, passing through Langtang Village and lush forests. Descending feels easier, allowing you to fully enjoy the dramatic scenery. Overnight in Lama Hotel.

Day 8: Trek Lama Hotel to Thulo Syabru (2,230m)

The trail descends to the river before climbing steadily to the Tamang village of Thulo Syabru. This cultural village offers panoramic views and insight into traditional Himalayan life. Overnight in Thulo Syabru.

Day 9: Trek Thulo Syabru to Shin Gompa (3,330m)

Ascend through oak, rhododendron, and pine forests to Shin Gompa. The village is home to a famous monastery and local cheese factory, making it a rewarding stop on the journey. Overnight in Shin Gompa.

Day 10: Trek Shin Gompa to Dhunche (2,030m)

Descend gradually along forested trails with chances to spot wildlife. Reach Dhunche, the administrative center of Rasuwa district, marking the end of your trek. Overnight in Dhunche.

Day 11: Drive Dhunche to Kathmandu

Return to Kathmandu by road, enjoying scenic views along the way. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel and celebrate the completion of your Langtang adventure. Overnight in Kathmandu.
