Mingma Doma Sherpa
Mingma Doma grew up near the village of Pangom in Solukhumbu District in Nepal. Inspired by
her family's tradition of guiding mountaineers and trekkers, she began her career leading
expeditions across the Everest, Annapurna, and Langtang regions. With more than a decade’s
experience, Mingma has become renowned for her ability to create safe, meaningful, and
culturally rich journeys throughout Nepal, Bhutan, and Tibet.
In addition to guiding, Mingma actively supports women's empowerment and rural education
through local training programs. She’s helped establish community libraries and advocates
for sustainable trekking practices in her home region. When not trekking, she enjoys hosting
cultural homestays with her family in Kathmandu, sharing Sherpa hospitality with travelers
from around the world.
What places and activities do you specialize in?
"My specialties include high-altitude trekking in Khumbu and Annapurna, customized mountaineering expeditions, cross-cultural homestays in Sherpa villages, and leading festival tours in Solu Khumbu and Helambu. I work closely with local women's groups to promote charity climbs and wellness treks. Off the beaten path, I love showing guests the remote routes around Makalu and community projects near Pangboche."
How did you get involved in travel?
"From a young age, I watched my father guide climbers on Everest and my mother host trekkers at our village teahouse. My earliest memory is joining family hikes, learning the customs and stories of our region. After graduating, I completed guide training and began volunteering with local tourism cooperatives. The support of women leaders in my community gave me confidence to lead treks and inspire other girls to join the travel industry."
Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.
"During a spring trek to Gokyo, I organized an impromptu storytelling night with elderly villagers and trekkers. Hearing the legends of Sagarmatha beneath the stars, with snowflakes falling, felt magical. Another lasting memory was helping a group from Singapore organize a fundraising climb for a local school—seeing the joy and gratitude in the children’s faces was unforgettable. It reaffirmed my belief that every trek is an opportunity to build community and share happiness."
